Air Force Foreign Language Flagship Scholarships
IU Air Force ROTC students participating in the Russian Flagship are encouraged to take advantage of the Air Force Foreign Language Flagship Scholarships – a joint initiative between the Air Force and the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO).
AFROTC scholarships cover a maximum of 4 years of academic-year language training and DLNSEO picks up the tab for summer language training (domestic or overseas) and pays for the Capstone year in Kazakhstan.
To become eligible for an AFROTC Foreign Language Flagship Scholarship, cadets must be in good standing with IU’s Air Force ROTC program and successfully meet eligibility and proficiency requirements with the IU Russian Flagship Program. Additional scholarship requirements include a 2.5 minimum term and cumulative GPA, a certified medical evaluation, passing a physical fitness assessment score for the term of the scholarship award, and at least one standardized test score from the ACT, SAT, or the Air Force’s own Air Force Officer Qualifying Test.
For more information about AFROTC membership, current scholarship eligibility requirements, and career opportunities, contact IU’s Air Force ROTC program at firstname.lastname@example.org, (800)-IUB-ROTC, or online at https://afrotc.indiana.edu/.

Leverage your Language Skills in the Air Force
As a Flagship AFROTC cadet, you may become eligible for additional benefits such as tax-free monthly stipends, annual performance-based incentive pay during school, and competitive priority consideration for Air Force career fields and assignments.
Once you are in the Air Force, the Language Enabled Airman Program (LEAP) is a great opportunity to maintain your language skills. The purpose of LEAP is to sustain, enhance and utilize the existing language skills and talents of Airmen. More information on LEAP can be found here.
Army Foreign Language Flagship Scholarships
The Army Cadet Command in partnership with the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) offers scholarships to Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students enrolled in eligible Language Flagship Programs, including the IU Russian Flagship Program.
The Army scholarships cover language training during the academic year and DLNSEO provides funding for attendance at domestic and overseas Flagship approved summer language programs as well as for the Capstone year in Kazakhstan.

More Information on ROTC Funding for Critical Language Study
Students interested in combining the Russian Flagship Program with ROTC should meet with their commanding officers, as well as with an advisor from the Russian Flagship Program, to discuss an individualized plan of study for meeting these requirements.
Student Certification System Requirement
Students applying for Russian Flagship Scholarships are required to complete a profile in the Student Certification System (SCS), a database managed by the National Security Education Program (NSEP) in the U.S. Department of Defense, which funds the IU Russian Flagship Program. Russian Flagship students must keep their profiles in the Student Certification System up-to-date. Russian Flagship students who have not completed a profile in the Student Certification System are not eligible to apply for Language Flagship Scholarships.
