IU-Based funding opportunities for international study

  • HIEP funds students who go abroad for the summer, semester, or academic year
  • HIEP Grant funding is open to any full-time undergraduate student at IU Bloomington and is made on a competitive basis. Any IU-Bloomington undergraduate student with a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or major GPA of 3.70 may apply. There is a preference for Hutton Honors College students and Hudson & Holland Scholars, and for students going abroad for a semester or a year

  • This scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies and who have a strong interest in, and commitment to, international issues
  • Applicants must be full-time IUB undergraduate students (minimum 12 credit hours) with a major in HLS, have a minimum GPA of 3.500 in his/her major at the time of the application and maintain full-time enrollment (minimum 12 credit hours) in HLS or in an IU-administered or IU-co-sponsored overseas study program for the award year
  • One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually

  • This scholarship supports current, full-time undergraduates at HLS who participate in IU-approved, credit-bearing overseas study experiences. The overseas study program can be for a summer, a semester, or an academic year
  • To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be officially enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (minimum 12 credit hours) with a major or minor in HLS, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 at the time they apply, and have been accepted to participate in an IU-approved, credit-bearing overseas study program

  • This scholarship is for undergraduate students majoring in political science, philosophy, or international studies
  • To be eligible, students must be a current sophomore (second-year student) or junior (third-year student) in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in political science, philosophy, or international studies, with a current minimum College of Arts and Sciences GPA of 3.700. Students must also maintain full-time enrollment in the College of Arts and Sciences or in an IU-administered or IU-co-sponsored overseas study program during the current academic year
  • One or more recipients will receive a $1000 award that is to be applied to their cost of attendance for the spring semester

  • The Won-Joon Yoon Scholarship is administered by Indiana University’s Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs. Scholarships will be awarded to students whose academic, professional, and personal accomplishments and goals exhibit tolerance, understanding, and commitment to service
  • Applicants may be students from any discipline or department on the Bloomington campus. Students must be enrolled as full-time students and continue to be students in the Spring and Fall semesters.

Learn more about the Won-Joon Yoon Scholarship

  • Applications are accepted from undergraduate students enrolled full time in a degree-seeking program on the IU Bloomington campus. The study abroad experience must take place during the period immediately following applications. Applicants must be in good disciplinary and academic standing at the time of application (with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5) and they must maintain academic progress toward degree completion. Students must be accepted to an IU Study Abroad program that offers credit, as listed under the IU Office of Overseas Study programs. Some IU departmental programs that have study abroad components are acceptable
  • Students who demonstrate financial need will be given special consideration
  • Preference will be given to students who do not have extensive travel or study abroad experience
  • Scholarship awards range from $500 to $4,000
