Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
Deadline: Early February
The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships are funded by the United States Department of Education in support of students studying less commonly taught languages and cultures both domestically and overseas. These awards are intended to promote the training of students who plan to make careers in college or university teaching, government service, or other employment where knowledge of foreign languages, societies, and cultures is a prerequisite for success. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Academic year FLAS fellowships are granted for full-time study at U.S. or foreign institutions. Summer FLAS fellowships are awarded to students who pursue intensive domestic or overseas summer language studies.
